American politics is fundamentally broken, and you can see it right here in Maryland. The political establishment and major media corporations have become gatekeepers. They have quietly built a system where wealthy candidates can buy their way into office with millions of dollars in slick, 30-second TV commercials, while entirely dodging live, unscripted public debates.
When you block qualified candidates from a public platform, you starve the voters of information. Turning our elections into a wealth contest—especially on the backs of the veterans who laid down their lives to protect a free, transparent choice—is a profound dishonor to their sacrifice.
Tomorrow, a non-partisan coalition of congressional candidates from across Maryland is drawing a line in the sand. Together, we will publicly sign a Joint Media Declaration demanding immediate, televised primary debates.
